Water Hazard Drink Recipe
Water Hazard Drink Ingredients
2 oz / 60 ml Vodka (I used Dripping Springs)

2 oz / 60 ml Sprite
Lemon wedge, cherry, and a golf ball pick, for garnish
How to make a Water Hazard Drink
Build over ice in a tall glass and stir gently to combine. Garnish with a lemon wedge, a cherry, and a golf ball cocktail pick. Scale it straight up in a pitcher for a group, or serve it in a tiki mug for full Masters Week effect.

The Water Hazard is the blue Gatorade drink that took over golf courses: vodka, lemonade, blue Gatorade, and lemon-lime soda, built in the glass over ice and handed out the side of a beverage cart. No shaking, no fresh juice, no technique.
It went viral in 2025, and the person who set it off had never heard of it either. Jennifer Friday (@jennnbellee on TikTok) drives a beverage cart on a golf course. A golfer ordered a water hazard, she had no idea what it was, and he told her it was a popular golf course drink in Canada and walked her through the recipe on the spot. She filmed herself making her first one. That video passed 10 million views, and the comments filled up with Winnipeg golfers saying they had been drinking these for years.
The ratio. The original is loose on purpose: a shot of vodka, a splash of lemonade, a splash of Sprite, and blue Gatorade to fill. I build mine in equal parts, 2 oz of each, because it scales to a pitcher without anyone measuring and it keeps the color right. If you want it less sweet, cut the Gatorade to 1 oz and add half an ounce of fresh lemon.
Why the name. A water hazard is the pond a golf ball disappears into. The drink is pond blue. That is the entire joke.
If you want something closer to a craft cocktail, I made an upgraded version in the full video: white rum instead of vodka, fresh lime, chili-lime bitters, over a coconut water golf ball ice sphere.
If tequila is more your speed, the Mexican Water Hazard swaps in blanco tequila, cucumber lime Gatorade, and Squirt grapefruit soda, with a Tajin rim.
