Tequila Espresso Martini Recipe
How to make a Tequila Espresso Martini
Ingredients
2 oz. Tequila (I used LALO Blanco - you can also use a reposado tequila)
1 oz. Freshly Brewed Espresso
.5 oz. Coffee Liqueur (I used Mr. Black Coffee Liqueur)
.5 oz. Simple Syrup
Technique
Shake all ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Strain into a chilled coupe or martini glass, and garnish with 3 coffee beans, symbolizing health, wealth, and happiness.
Quick tip: To make simple syrup, combine 1 part boiling water and 1 part sugar. Allow it to cool before using in the recipe. If you use a sweeter coffee liqueur, such as Kahlua, you may not need the additional sweetness from the simple syrup.
Since Mr. Black isn't as sweet as Kahlua, I do recommend adding simple syrup if you use it. Mr. Black has the best coffee flavor out of all the coffee liqueurs.
Can you make an espresso martini with tequila?
Yes! I think an espresso martini is even better with tequila than vodka. For this recipe, I'll use a blanco tequila. Blanco tequilas are unaged, so they highlight the pure flavor of agave. I'm using LALO tequila.
Why is LALO such a good tequila?
- It's additive-free
- LALO is 100% agave
- Produced at a family distillery using the traditional brick oven method
I’ve made plenty of espresso martinis and ordered plenty of espresso martinis in bars, but have only made tequila espresso martinis at home. Check out this video if you would like to learn more about espresso martinis.
Espresso Martinis with Reposado Tequila
You can also use a reposado (or rested) tequila. This is a tequila that has been aged for at least two months, but no more than a year, in a barrel. If you're a fan of the oak and vanilla notes found in aged spirits, give an espresso martini with reposado tequila a try.
