Lamborgotti Fasterossa (A Luxardo Bitter Bianco Negroni Spritz) Recipe

The Lamborgotti Fasterossa is the Italian sports car from The Simpsons. Mr. Burns orders one in "The Italian Bob" and sends Homer to pick it up from the factory, and Homer wrecks it twice before it reaches the port, once on a wheel of cheese and once on some Roman ruins. An Italian-adjacent Negroni topped with Duff orange soda needed an Italian-adjacent name, and this was the one.

Underneath the joke it is a White Negroni lengthened into a spritz. Gin, Luxardo Bitter Bianco, and dry vermouth make the base, the same build as my Purple Negroni with the proportions tilted toward the gin, and orange soda takes it long and fizzy. It lands somewhere between a White Negroni and a Sbagliato: bitter, bright, and about half the strength of the real thing. Bitter Bianco is a clear Italian bitter Luxardo revived in 2016 from a 1930s recipe, bitter orange and herbs with wormwood, and it is what lets the orange soda show through instead of turning the drink pink.

The gin was enGINe, an Italian organic gin that comes in a motor oil can, which is too on the nose to skip. Any dry gin works. The soda was Duff A L'Orange, which is a real product, though San Pellegrino Aranciata is the grown-up version of the same idea.

Is this a Negroni Sbagliato?

Not quite. A Sbagliato swaps the gin for sparkling wine. This keeps the gin and adds soda on top, so it is closer to a Negroni spritz, or a white Americano with gin in it.

What can I use instead of Luxardo Bitter Bianco?

Suze gives you the classic White Negroni bitterness, earthier and less sweet. Campari works too, but then it is a red drink and the orange soda starts to taste like a creamsicle.

Do I have to use Duff?

No. Any orange soda works. A drier one like Aranciata keeps the drink bitter; a sweeter one like Fanta pushes it toward a boozy orange soda, which is also fine.
